Experience a bit of Rome in New York

Experience a bit of Rome in New York, The Bulgari’s reopened Flagship store on Fifth Avenue can only be fairly described as a slice of marvelous Rome in New York. The store, which is a modern-day spectacle, grandly occupies a corner of the spectacular Crown building. The face of the store is anything but modest; with its rosette-studded exterior, the lavish establishment commands the attention of anyone in the vicinity.

When renowned architect, Peter Marino, was selected to renew the establishment, he found inspiration from the Roman origin of the luxury brand. The visionary blended traditional Italian design concepts with modern American innovation for the store’s interior. The inside of the stores is generously designed with marble, making up the glamorous white floor and luxurious tabletops.

Exquisite collection cases reside on top of these tables, and the area itself is lit by two extravagant Gio Ponti chandeliers, which were procured from the ballroom of Rome’s famous Hotel Parco Dei Principi.

The store’s intricate design and the lavish furniture were both heavily influenced by Italian design heritage. In particular, the midcentury Italian design era is taken as a focal point; this particular period was very important because it pertains to the Bulgari identity, and this era was crucial for the brand’s milestones in high-fashion jewelry. This identity has been used to inspire and give direction to modern styles.

The development of this store was a particularly enthusiastic project for Marino, which can be largely accredited to the ‘youth’ of New York.

That is to say, unlike Bulgari stores which Marino worked on in London or Rome, the Flagship in Fifth Avenue allowed Peter to freely pursue his artistic calling without having to pay heed to any constraints.

The ‘newness’ of New York meant that the exterior of the building isn’t cemented and landmarked, as they are in Rome or London, and this flexibility is what enabled Marino to mold the Fifth Avenue store into an epitome of artistic expression.
