Mycelium Victoria Bag- Replacing Traditional Leather

Mycelium Victoria Bag- Replacing Traditional Leather

Trying to find new materials that are more ecologic, mycelium, the branching, thread-like part of fungi, is replacing traditional leather. Hermès has paired up with biotech firm MycoWorks on a new material, dubbed Sylvania, that combines the latter’s Fine Mycelium process for producing interlocking, cellular structures, and the former’s craftsmanship—created in MycoWorks’ facility, later to be finished and tanned by Hermes craftspeople.

The first product of the collaboration will be a version of a Victoria bag with brown Sylvania side panels, a canvas center, and Evercalf calfskin handles and detailing.

On the market, it will become available by the end of the year.
