A Wondrous Celebration of Diana Yacht Design Heritage

47m Diana R.50 Concept: A Wondrous Celebration of Diana Yacht Design Heritage

What better way to commemorate your staggering shipbuilding adventures of 50 years! Diana Yacht Design has marked its 50th year in the roaring superyacht business with the gem of a superyacht design.

The Diana R.50 concept has followed in the glorious naval tradition of the company that has unprecedented expertise in employing luxury within the superyacht architecture. The validation for this glamorous success of the company is exemplified by more than 70 superyachts that have set sail on the pristine waters of the exotic global destinations since its inception, proudly bearing the emblem of Diana Yacht Design while exhibiting the state-of-the-art yacht experiences.

Diana R.50 concept shares an interesting history that envelopes its origination story. Initially a commercial assignment, the elegant design was conceived by the connoisseur of superyacht architecture Casper Marelis, who was also Boat International Young Designer of the Year finalist.

The project could not materialize, after which there was a unanimous perception within the ranks at Diana Yacht Design that the elaborate design was too good to be cast away in the shadows. This was the sentiment protruded by the Creative Director Hans-Maarten Bais, who maintained,

“We decided to revisit the design together with the Diana team for our 50th anniversary. We expanded on the original concept to create something really unique. With excellent seakeeping, maximized living spaces and bold styling, R.50 represents the best of Diana Yacht Design.”

The concept stimulated by the thought process, as voiced by the creative director, was to furnish a superyacht that would house all the impressive contemporary features of a galactic yacht design, while ensuring that the Diana R.50 concept classifies under the crucial 500 GT threshold. This primarily explains its humble dimension of 47 meters or 154 feet in length; however, it does not encourage any flaw in its exceptional range of superyacht features.

The prominent feature of the Diana R.50 concept superyacht can be regarded as the sundeck on the structure’s board, which houses a sheltered al-fresco dining area, a modern jacuzzi, and an elaborate cocktail bar, further accompanied by an impressive EC135 helicopter helipad.

These modernistic elements are meticulously encamped together in a 500 GT component, which speaks volumes of the engineering mettle at Diana Yacht Design.

Below the sun-drenched deck, the bridge deck has been sophisticatedly designed to house two large tenders and jet skis, further accompanied by a handsome sky lounge with a fully-equipped bar.

In the lower deck, the superyacht flaunts a spacious beach area with the fold-away transom door giving a supernal setting to enjoy the waterside.

The superyacht’s interior has been comprehensively designed to manipulate the smart living zone concept, with the space scrupulously allocated to accommodate up to 12 guests across six staterooms also harboring a full-beam master stateroom with a private office located on the main deck.

Furthermore, indoor facilities like the sky lounge consisting of floor-to-ceiling windows provide a unique comforting spectacle for the guests to hang out on the superyacht platform. Complimenting the state-of-the-art interiors, Diana R.50 makes splendid use of two pleasant color schemes of Gunmetal Grey and Chevy White, their tranquil impact on the superyacht design supplemented by the bold lines adorning the overall structure.

The aesthetics of the superyacht are supremely matched by its mechanical power as the Diana R.50 is powered by twin 750kW engines, providing an expansive range of 3,500 nautical miles with the maximum speed touching 14 knots.

Diana R.50 is certainly a decorous amalgamation of a 500 GT yacht enriched with all the contemporary elements that have become the mainstay of the elaborate modern yachting scene. If this superyacht concept is the harbinger of what 2021 has in store, the luxury shipbuilding is set for another glamorous year.
