When it is up to the news about eyewear, French luxury fashion brand Balmain has signed a new deal with a brand new Swiss company Akoni and its CEO, Rosario Toscano is leading into a new approach to launching its debut eyewear collection.

Toscano said: ”We will never sell Balmain in more than 2,000 stores worldwide. Globally, there are about 500,000 doors. We want the Balmain glasses to be in less than one percent.” On making the collection in Japan he said ”Made in Japan eyewear stands for quality. Like a watch made in Switzerland means quality. Two cities in Japan are key, with the best machinery and expert craftsmen, and that, for the past 50 years. Although the production process may take longer, the result is a very high-quality product.
The Balmain designer Oliver Rousteing unveiled the glasses back in January, during its menswear runway show in Paris, and women wear show on February 28th. Every model was dressed in black, double-breasted, signature Balmain coats- and wearing the new frames-gutsy, bold lines, signature medallions, and gold trim.
Since then, with a tight distribution and high price point, the eyewear began rolling out carefully in late May- definitely a strategy that many of the runaway brands will follow in the future.
Toscano was born on Sicily, educated in Ireland, and was also the Global Managing Director of Dita Eyewear, as well as responsible for creating eyewear for Thom Browne, also based in Dublin.
