Six Senses, Fiji

A brand new resort, Six Senses Fiji, went beyond the limits in sustainability programs. Conserving energy and rainwater for the long term, make their delicious drinking water in a reverse osmosis plant.

Producing their food organically, off-grid solar installations using Tesla battery packs in the Southern Hemisphere, they use energy from the sun to power the resort, and the excess power is used for the desalination plant.

The resort is home to 17 Fijian crested iguanas, a critically endangered species with less than 5000 remaining in the world.

Taking a further step up in responsibility, it offers development programs to high potential Fijians, working with several cottage industries to support the local economy. The resort collaborates with Rise Beyond the Reef, the NGO which works with women in remote communities, teaching them to create marketable goods using traditional skills. These goods are used in the villas and restaurants and are for sale in the resort boutique. The profit goes into alleviating poverty in the communities.
